Choosing the Right Siding Contractor to Give Your Home a Facelift

Replacing the siding on your home can be a big and expensive project, so you need to choose the right contractor to make sure the project is done right.  Cost is a big consideration but it is not always indicative of quality.  The most expensive doesn’t mean the best nor does the cheapest equal the worst.  Ideally you want the work done to add value to your home.  Here are some tips on choosing the right siding contractor to give your home a facelift.

Experience

It goes without saying that you want a siding contractor who knows what they are doing and have the experience to make sure that your siding is properly installed.  Ask any potential contractor how long they have been in business and about the installer’s experience.  Generally the longer a company has been in business the better, they have had experience on a wide variety of jobs.

Business Reputation

You want a company that has a good reputation, but when it comes to looking at reviews do so with a cautious eye.  An organization that tends to have nothing but 5 Star reviews there is a good chance they are fake, the same with nothing but 1 Star reviews.  No contractor can please everyone but there should be at least an above average reputation within the local business community.  You can check with Google, Yelp or Angie’s List to see how the company is rated by their customers.  Here is some help in spotting fake reviews.

Licenses and Insurance

If you have any type of contractor come on to your property to do some work then you better make sure they are insured and properly licensed or you could be held liable for anything that happens.  You can check with your local municipality to check if they are licensed and make sure to ask for proof of insurance.  You also want to work out ahead of time who will take care of the building permits that you will need.

High Quality Building Materials

Experience and reputation are only part of the equation you also need to use good quality material on your home.  Your home is a big investment and it is in your best interest to use the best materials that you can.  You should find out the terms and conditions of your manufacturer’s warranty, will you be covered for things like storm damage or just manufacturer defects?
